Our Environmental, Social & Governance targets

Working towards a more sustainable world

At biomega®, our promise is to make a positive impact on the world, while enabling vitality and quality of life through our product range. As part of our circular approach, we are striving for a more sustainable world by advocating for a responsible supply chain.

Delivering on our ambition to become a circular economy ambassador is not something we can achieve on our own. By building new partnerships and working with suppliers and customers across the aquaculture supply chain, we can ensure that all residual raw salmon material from the industry is utilised, while contributing to the wider economy by working to reduce our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and delivering less pollution into our oceans.

The purpose of our Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) report is to establish a solid base for our communication with customers, suppliers, partners, and employees, and to maintain that as the ‘gold standard’ going forward. As we work at an international level, it is vital that we ensure all business is conducted in a responsible and ethical manner. As biomega® is part of the circular economy, it is important for us to consider our wider implications on the environment and to understand how, as a business, we can be recognised as a responsible employer. In addition to ESG, biomega® also conducts due diligence in accordance with the Norwegian Transparency Act. For further reading, please download our latest Transpareny Act report below.

Our ESG Report

Since the company’s founding in 2000, biomega® has been working towards advancing innovative biotechnology to release the full nutritional and functional value of side streams from the salmon industry. Our ESG report covers what we have achieved so far and sets our ambitious targets for the future.

From conducting double materiality assessments to establishing a foundation for our future governance processes, it’s important that we ensure ESG is implemented across the whole organisation to deliver on our sustainable development goals.

What is included in our ESG Report?

Our annual ESG report delivers a full overview of who we are as a company, key figures at a glance and our overall business model. This includes how we are promoting our circular methodology through our three pillars in human nutrition, pet food and aquaculture, as well as throughout the wider marine industry.

It contains our ESG governance structure and discusses our current strategy and how these align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) including Zero Hunger, Good Health & Well-Being, Responsible Consumption & Production, Climate Action, Life Below Water, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and Decent Work and Economic Growth.

The report also details how we are taking our commitment to the environment seriously by setting realistic targets year-on-year regarding our greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption and packaging needs. Included in this area is our innovation targets and current projects that we are working on.

In addition, we also review our current social and governance models and set targets to ensure we deliver a responsible business practice and act as a responsible employer. This includes how we tackle equity, diversity and inclusion in the workforce, as well as how we manage our supply chain, health and safety, and retention and recruitment.
